评赵绪成都市艺术

江苏省国画院终身名誉院长赵绪成先生是我的良师益友,他是一位艺术大师,我是音乐人,我们交往已经超过三十个年头。三十多年来,受他的感染,我对东西方艺术大师的精品力作,多有收藏与研读。每当看到赵先生那令人荡气回肠、充满激情的艺术杰作时,我的内心感到无比震撼。
即东即西,亦东亦西,不是东西,画得好,都是好东西。
赵绪成先生的艺术,深深植根于中国传统文化的土壤,他汲取一切人类文明的优秀成果,以博大的胸襟,站在跨越东西方文化的时空高度,融合东西方文化的精粹,打破了中西方文化长久以来保持对峙的局面和不可融合的神话。
赵绪成是跨越古今,跨越墨彩,跨越东西,跨越时空,多元创新的天才艺术大师。
赵绪成先生力主“多元创新”,变中国画传统的优雅线条,为极富张力、粗犷炫目的重彩笔墨;破传统国画多有雷同、潇散空灵的构图技法,自创充满活力、激情溢满画面的神奇构图;改国画审美取向不重采光、崇尚水墨的传统,以缕缕强光,笔笔艳彩,创造出跨越东西的时代杰作。
美国哈默画廊主席麦克尔·哈默先生认为:“赵先生艺术的前瞻和革命性,可以和美国抽象表现主义画家罗伯特·马瑟韦尔,德库宁相匹敌。”
中国的一位大评论家认为:赵绪成先生的“视野非常开阔,把古今中外很多好东西拿来,张扬个性,大胆创新,为己所用。他有非常开阔的胸怀,我觉得他比古人的心胸更大。”
我认为:赵绪成是中国的八大,西方的毕加索。
Cross Over Between Ink and Colour
Comments on the Cityscape Paintings by Zhao Xucheng

Mr. Zhao Xucheng,lifetime honorary director of the Jiangsu Provincial Chinese Painting Institute is my mentor and good friend. He is a master of art, and I am a musician. We have been acquainted for more than 30 years. Under his influence, I collected the paintings of western masters. I am always touched deeply when I am viewing his passionate and magnificent works.
“Nevertheless, it is neither east nor west, east or west, both east and west, not east or west, a good painting is always a masterpiece.”
Zhao Xucheng’s masterpieces are embraced as a model of the successful fusion of modern western art and Chinese tradition. Zhao’s art is rooted deeply in Chinese traditional ink-on-paper painting. By creating the universal style that assimilates the artistic traditions of his native cultural heritage as well as the western world, Zhao’s art seems to have transcended national and cultural boundaries considering the East and the West as opposite entities. Meanwhile, his art proves that the “traditionalism” and the “modernism”, which used to be regarded as mutually exclusive, could merge with each other in a harmonious way.
Zhao Xucheng is a giant of multiple innovative creating works, transcending ink and color, east and west, time and place.
In terms of the relationship tension of tradition and times, Mr. Zhao Xucheng absorbs the light and color from the west very well. The paintings of Mr. Zhao are characterized with graceful lines, vivid modeling, elegant spirit. The energetic, swift brushstrokes, turbulent gestures, like spurts, chaos, eruptions and splashes, suggest Chinese cursive calligraphy, which skill Zhao has been trained for years. However, the forms, together with the use of lights and colors, belong to the western painting tradition. His works reflect great energy and forceful confrontation: Sweeping gestures of bright colors battle against each other like a cosmic struggle, and the violence of the brushstroke suggest the enormous energy behind it.
Michael A. Hammer, chairman of the Hammer Gallery commented: Drawing upon centuries of tradition, Mr. Zhao’s contemporary calligraphy expands the visual interpretation of classical painting.
As revolutionary as Abstract Expressionist painters in America, such as Robert Motherwell and Wilhem de Kooning, the fluidity and movement of Mr. Zhao’s works speak to “feeling” a work of art rather than “understanding” a work of art.
A great art critic commented: He has such a wide field of vision to respond to influences from all over the world. He is a broad minded person with a strong Chinese national identity, I think his mind is even broader than the artists of ancient times.
I think Zhao Xucheng is China’s Zhu Da, western’s Picasso.
